Hands on History Crew: Crafty Romans
I will be demonstrating various different Roman pottery making methods including Samian Ware and Barbotine decoration. Find out what the Romans did for potters: See me making Amphora, Flagons, Mortaria etc on the potters' wheel and lamps, votive figures etc in moulds. Children will have the chance to do some hands-on clay work making Roman figures to take home.

Children will have the chance to do some hands-on clay work making Roman figures to take home.

Throughout the day discover more about the roman inventions that changed our life. Join in games from the Roman Empire and the whole family can have fun taking part in Roman surveying. Meet Sally Grainger, food historian and author and find out about Roman food and their favourite recipes. There’s even a chance to taste a selection of roman delicacies. The highlight of the day will be watching the thrilling skills of the Roman Charioteer as he drives an authentic replica of a Quadriga Roman chariot.

Gladiator Spectacular
I will be demonstrating various different Roman pottery making methods including Samian Ware and Barbotine decoration Gladiator cups. But possibly, more importantly I'll be making votive arms, legs and heads for the Gladiators to offer to the god Aesclepius in order to seek his help when they get injured. See me making Amphora, Flagons, Mortaria etc on the potters' wheel and lamps, votive figures etc in moulds. Children will have the chance to do some hands-on clay work making Roman figures and their own votive eyes, noses and ears to take home. The stunning ruins of this Roman town play host to a spectacular weekend of Gladiatorial combat and equestrian skills. Come along and cheer your champion as fully armoured Gladiators take on their opponents in this ancient sport. Enjoy Roman cookery, pottery, textiles and games. And should there be a need, we also have demonstrations of burials and rituals!

Discovering Prehistoric pottery with Graham Taylor, potter and experimental archaeologist. A drop-in day for all: The morning will be spent making tools and pots the Prehistoric way and the afternoon will see a bonfire kiln being built and fired in the museum yard. Usual museum admission charge applies.
